Maintaining Your Air Conditioner in 3 Easy Ways

Blog

The essence of air conditioning maintenance is to save money on issues related to energy and to increase comfort in a home. Regular servicing will increase the lifespan of your AC, which in return makes it possible to avoid early replacement. The parts of the AC that need regular servicing include coils, filters and fins. Therefore, it is paramount to understand the manner in which these parts can be maintained properly.

Air Conditioner Filters

When you maintain air filters, you need to make sure to routinely clean or replace them. Dirty or clogged filters block airflow and reduce the system's efficiency. In addition, the obstruction of the normal airflow causes air that bypasses the filter to carry dirt through to the evaporator coil. This dirt interferes with the coil's ability to absorb heat. Replacing a dirty and clogged filter will reduce the AC's energy consumption. During the cooling season, it is paramount that the filter system is replaced or cleaned over time. The filters must be given frequent attention if they are subjected to dusty conditions or if the house has fur-bearing pets. As a general rule of thumb, you should check the filter and other parts of the AC regularly to avoid the clogging of destructive materials.

Air Conditioner Coils

After the condenser coils and evaporator coils have functioned for months or years, they collect dust and dirt from the atmosphere. If the filter is clean, the evaporator coil will not spoil quickly, though it will eventually collect dirt that reduces its heat absorption ability. This problem can be minimised by cleaning and checking the evaporator coil after every year. The case is the same for the outdoor condenser coils since the majority of them are subjected to foliage or dusty environmental conditions. In such cases, one can notice the condenser coil being dirty due to the collection of dirt on its fins. It is also essential to ensure that the dirt and the debris such as falling leaves near the condenser unit are cleaned to allow better airflow.

Coil Fins

The AC contains aluminium fins located on the condenser and evaporator coils, which easily bend to block the airflow through the coil. Maintenance of the coil fins is done through combing the coils using fin combs that make the coils return to their original conditions.

Maintaining these parts on a regular basis will keep your AC functional and free from the risk of permanent damage.
